UbiSoft Far Cry

Strengths: Just about every aspect of the game.

Weakness: Multiplayer. But for me, that's no big deal. And enemy A.I. can be a tad tough, even on easy. Again, no big deal.

What can I say about Far Cry.....well, for one, this is absolutely THE BEST first person/action shooter since the first Half Life or Tron 2.0. The graphics, especially on Ultra, are amazing, to say the least. The particle effects, the water effects, reflections, weapons effects, enemy models, animation, vehicles, level design, heck, simply put, every graphical aspect of this game just oozes with incredible detail. Gameplay is awesome, and with multiple ways to finish each level, and for that matter, the whole game, the replay value is fantastic. With its moody theme based music that harkins to something bad about to happen, to the way the enemies will attack you, surround you, run away and get help, flank you, dive for cover, etc etc., you never know what they'll do next, just like in the real world. The environments, from forts, beach fronts, piers, research centers, and even a volcano, are truly life-like in their realism. Steam ripples the air around it, smoke billows like it's supposed to, and lets not forget the sounds! Totally emersive! From the weapons sounds reverbing off of metal walls, to the grunt, and "smack" that enemies curse at you, the sounds are as excellent as the graphics. And, there are many truly scary moments, very much on par with Doom 3's scariness. And I have to mention the A.I. once again. These guys can be TOUGH, and, as probably the only slight negative about the game, the enemies can be a bit TOO tough at times, but that makes this game stand out even more for the realism! This could best be described as a "combat simulator", in the vein of America's Army, or Tom Clancy's Rouge Spear! And the WATER effects ALONE are worth any price tag. NO GAME, not one, has as impressive a water effect like Far Cry's CryTek Engine. And these guys are from CROATIA! Way to go guys!! 5 out of 5 stars just doesn't say enough at how absolutely amazing this game truly is. If you want a REAL next-gen first person action shooter, don't bother with Half-Life 2(the worst excuse for a game), go out and BUY FAR CRY today!!! You won't regret it!

UbiSoft Far Cry

Strengths: graphics,gameplay,level design

Weakness: ordinary multiplayer,mediocre voice acting

One day, out of nowhere, came far cry.Not many people really knew too much about it including myself, since most of us were focused on Doom 3 and Half-Life 2.The game became a big hit once it was released and there are numerous reasons why.Graphics wise Far Cry is the best seen on the pc so far, period.Environments are gorgeous, and the character models look very real. But we all know graphics alone do not make a great game. The gameplay in far cry is a great combination of stealth and run-and-gun and the level design is excellent since there are numerous ways to play each and every level. This game may not look like it at first but as you advance in the game it can become pretty scary because of the great sound it has.My only complaint about the sounds is the voice acting and dialogue which isnt the greatest but its passable enough to not change the gameplay experience for the worse. As for multiplayer, theres nothing wrong with it, its just been done before. But its a great game so the multiplayer is still a lot of fun.Overall Far Cry is the best shooter to come along since, yea you guessed it, Half-Life.

UbiSoft Far Cry

Strengths: Beautiful visuals, Solid AI, Good and lengthy single player campaign, rather funny commentary and responses from the AI, very interactive environments, slightly deformable terrain, interesting story...

Weakness: Multiplayer is lackluster,Can bring even the best rigs to their knees, can demolish older rigs,a few bugs here and there, almost too long of a single player campaign.

This game hit me like a landslide. While the weaknesses can make someone think "How can this be good?", think again. While there are weaknesses, they are far over shadowed by the beautiful terrain and the challenging enemies. The single player campaign is long enough to get you your money's worth and twists and turns enough to keep you guessing. The audio commentary from Jack Carver and the Mercs are rather funny, "I'm gonna shoot you in the face!" is my personal favorite. This game is going to make you want to play through the single player section again on the harder difficulty level, but the multiplayer aspect isn't as good as it COULD be. Not that it won't get better...It depends on Ubisoft and Crytek...Recommended.

UbiSoft Far Cry

Strengths: AWESOME graphics and very cool way of playing

Weakness: extremely hard with very smart AI

This game is cutting edge not only graphics wise but gameplay wise as well. You don't have a set way that you can go. It is wide open islands and you can go anywhere you want. One way may lead you through a lot of guys while another there may just be a few. The AI is extremely smart but they also don't "magically" know where you are. Also, you can only get shot a few times before you die without armor. Overall, decent game.

One of the greats

Strengths: Scenery is breath taking(even when not using the highest settings), AI is Actually Intelligent, controls are easy to master, the all-in-one package when you're on the handgliders!!

Weakness: Online play is difficult to get set-up, Ubi-Soft may as well be EA when it comes to customer service, voice acting is pretty bad, people graphics could've been better

All in all, this game is the best FPS I've ever played. Though, to be fair, I haven't played F.E.A.R. yet, but even still my FPS experiences are still notable.

I played HL2 before I played this game, so I didn't expect much out of this $20(at the time I got it) game. I was blown away! The moment! I started playing this game I couldn't stop. Half Life 2 ain't got nuthin on this scenery! From the ocean's waves to killing a guy in the water and watching his blood spead in to the ocean to the mountains to jumping off the mountains with a hand-glider pumping the enemies with grenades asyou float to the ground. This game has it all. Everything I wanted out of HL2, I got out of this game.

Now don't get me wrong, both are spectacular games. They were created with different engines, so it's like comparing apples to oranges. However, the AI in FarCry far surpasses anything I dealt with in HL2. To me, what makes the game fun is content. Flashy graphics should be an after-thought when it comes to game play.

Now, as I've said, I haven't played F.E.A.R. yet, so it might be better. However, the AI and the graphics in FarCry combined make this game VERY tough to beat quality wise. Hell, it made it hard to beat game wise as well.

Medium for beginners will give you a taste of the game. For a real challenge, just bump it up one level. The AI shoots like it's had the same gun in its hand since birth. On medium, the AI is coordinated for defense. Anything higher and they're coordinated for death, destruction, and the murder of little bunnies!

I highly recommend this game for anyone looking for a fun challenge!

UbiSoft Far Cry

Strengths: Absolutely Everything!

Weakness: Killer on your Machine!

This is definetely one of the best FPS games made in the last few years. If you have a good enough system, the graphics are absolutely AMAZING, enviornments are almost like real pictures; detail of the soldiers and creatures is absolutely sick! I ran it on a Very High setting with an AMD 64 3200 overclocked, nVidia 5900XT overcloked and 2Gbs of RAM and it was amazing. Recommend it to anyone with a high end system.

UbiSoft Far Cry

Strengths: Damn pretty. Big, expansive environments with few restrictions. Every trick of the graphics trade on full display. Eerily smart bad guys. Fun vehicles.

Weakness: Fairly long load times. Requires a second mortgage to purchase a computer that can run this game at 'very high' settings. Terrible voice acting.

Every now and then, it's nice to see a game come flying out of the mist and smack the industry upside the head. Far Cry is such a game. It couples the latest and greatest enemy A.I with a graphics engine that is nothing short of stunning. While Doom 3 certainly has more slick effects at work, nothing can match Far Cry's sheer beauty when up and running. This game looks like a tropical postcard in motion. Trees sway in the wind, water ripples and reflects, fish swim in the sea, grass provides cover, pipes glisten and appear rusted and old, and lights swing in the breeze, casting shadows that dance over the walls. The first time you see one of the game's panoramic views, you will likely inhale and say "wow".

The power of this engine doesn't stop there, rather it continues to the enemies you'll be facing. These guys are smart, capable, and if you can see them, they can see you (not that the bright hula shirt you're sporting helps any). Fire a gun without a silencer, and they will all notice and come over to check things out. They'll hop in a waiting jeep and try to run you over. They'll try to sneak around behind you, and snipers will put a hole in your head before you even know they are there. It is a challenging atmosphere to play in, and any person who favors the 'run and gun' method will be dead within the first five minutes.

However, much like Doom 3, it will take one strong rig to run this game in high detail, and the options for toning down the graphics often eliminate the very things that make it unique, such as all the grassy underbrush dissapearing at the lower settings. In addition, the highly praised AI can make for one frustrating game, as there are no quick saves, just a series of checkpoints that often leave no room for error.

Still, for an unknown developer designing a game with a custom engine and little to no hype, Crytek has succeeded remarkably well. Far Cry is a much better game (and a bigger accomplishment) than Doom 3, and hopefully Crytek will be around for a long time

UbiSoft Far Cry

Strengths: Amazing graphics, full advantage of DirextX 9, full advantage of bump-mapping. Great gameplay.

Weakness: Need a decent PC to play it.

This game is the biggest step forward in graphics since quake2, this game uses new technologys like DX9 and bumpmapping to creat a realistic environment. From the lush forests, to the dark and murky tunnles, you will find your self not only shooting up humans, but also the scientific experiments gone wrong. This game is a must have in my books.

UbiSoft Far Cry

Strengths: Beautiful settings, a lot of action. Vehicle and weapon choices. Overall the whole game is great.

Weakness: PC Requirements. I have a new system I just built. I'm playing it without any problems, but most people that want to borrow it can't play it on their systems...well maybe that's a good thing.

This game is simply awesome. I'm new to gaming, I actually can't really stand to play a game for much more than a half hour. So this review is not much from a real gamer. My brothers on the other hand play it for hours and hours. When my friends come over they also want to play it for ever. I got Half Life 2 and I'm now playing HL 2. FarCry has some awesome A-I too good at times. I get killed alot. I stopped playing it cause I got hooked on HL 2. To compare them, well from a technical standpoint, FarCry appears a bit more realistic in terms of real world reactions. Though the mixture of fighting and puzzle like events in Half Life appear a bit funner to me.

Buy this game. Its a must. Prices are dropping so get it. But you will need a pretty up to date system especially video card.

From a beginners point of view, this game rocks and will turn a non gamer into a gamer.

UbiSoft Far Cry

Strengths: Graphics, can swim in water, weapon selection, AI, game-play and controls.

Weakness: Multiplayer

Far Cry is a GREAT improvement on AI and visual effects in the FPS genre, however, it appears they forgot to put the multiplayer game on it until the day it was supposed to ship. They clearly just 'tagged on' the multiplayer game. With such a great use of graphics, well thought-out controls, and realistic yet not boring weapons to choose from, this game is screaming for multiplayer all over it. But the designers only put in deathmatch and 'assault' mode. Assault mode is like a watered down Battlefield 1942, with 3 classes and specific objectives. Unfortunately, the objectives are merely 'hold this spot, now go hold THAT spot, now the third... done'. If they send an updated multiplayer conversion they might have a game for online action. Until then, hope you like the AI.

Awesome Graphics!

Strengths: Awesome Graphics, ,story line, 64-bit version available, weapons and mobile units, realism, downloadable mods

Weakness: 5 CD installation set

This game is a must have for FPSs. The graphics are awesome! I noticed it plays better on nVidia graphics boards. The menu has an option is maximize the game settings to your computer hardware.

The story line is great and it has multiple settings for difficulty. There is also a enemy response meter that tells you if the enemy is aware of you.

You can also download mods for this game.

The mobile units are great.

Favorite weapon: sniper rifle with insane scope!

UbiSoft Far Cry

Strengths: great graphics , sound , gameplay . huh ... what eals ??

Weakness: Um... kinda hard enemis , need a good video card , the story is a little bad too .

this game is good , i really liked it . however it needs a super video card , i used GF 5900U ( best card to run games ) & P4 2.4 . the sound is good too , well if you got a EAX tecnolegy . finely , the game levels are 20 some short with long time of fighting & the other are big (i mean really BIG ) with lots of walking around . the story is like nonsense you begin in an island & just start shooting around & doing objictive .

Far Cry is Excellent

Strengths: This game is packed full of awesome scenery, action, surprises and scares! It is a long game with lots of twists and turns. And, you can't get a game like this for this kind of price anywhere!

Weakness: None that I found. Although I never tried playing multi-player with it so there could be some issues there. I never had a desire to play multi-player with this one. The game itself was too fun.

A friend told us about this game. We had never heard of it before but we bought it anyway for $19.99. It was well worth the price and more! I would pay $50 for it. I played it through once and the scenery was awesome then we got a top of the line video card and I played it again. I was amazed at all the things I could see in the game that I couldn't see when using the other video card. For example, the water with the first video card looked great and looked real. However, after getting the new video card, I could look down from a cliff and see fish swimming in the water. (I never saw any fish in the water the first time I played it.) Crazy! This game is full of twists, turns, and action. And, just when you think you are getting close to finishing the game, you realize you still have a long way to go.

Far Cry

Unreal Tournament 2004 and Painkiller already on store shelves and Half-Life 2 and Doom 3 (hopefully) around the corner, 2004 promises to be a huge year for FPS fans. One FPS that has been turning heads since last year’s E3 is Far Cry, a title developed by German developer CryTek that promised unsurpassed gameplay coupled with some of the best graphics seen on the PC. Now, Far Cry is finally...

Far Cry

It's hard not to be amazed at what first-time developer CryTek has achieved with their rookie release. Far Cry doesn't just boast cutting-edge technology and a surplus of breathtaking visuals, but also pulls off the amazing triple play of open-ended gameplay far beyond the standard A-to-B-to-C of most shooters. Each of Far Cry's twenty levels is like a little world unto itself, and you could...

Far Cry

I started out loving this game. It had so much of what I'd been missing. Sure, it looks fantastic, but it also plays well and is satisfyingly long; each of the 20 levels should take you about an hour or more to play through, if you don't get risky and keep your head down. But I hit a few level design roadblocks that, combined with the Spartan save game system, made for some numbing repetition of...
