Pentium 4 640 w/ HT Technology - 3.2GHz Processor

Strengths: Very Fast and easily overclocked

Weakness: None that i have found

I installed this processor easily. I was very impressed with its performance. I was able to overclock it to 4.0ghz with the stock heatsink and fan. If i had to make the decision again on which processor to buy, i would buy this one. It has the best performance to price ratio.

Very Nice chip, I know this is a little dated but...

Strengths: Very Fast, Very Reliable and Very Stable

Weakness: None that I have found yet

I bought this chip in a combo set to a ECS 945P-A ver1.1 from Fry's for about 239.99. I thought that was a cheap price. Get this ECS mobo, worked first time installed :D. I don't do much over clocking but I bought PQI Memory DDR2 667mhz 1gig Dual Channel. I'm able to run F.E.A.R., Quake 4 very nicely and when playing Joint Operations: Escalation (OH MAN! what a major improvement), OH I also bought a Asus x850 Pro PCI-E. All in all the chip holds its name very well. I have been a AMD user up until now. Some of the comparable AMD chips/mobo combos couldn't quite get low enough in cost for me to consider buying, so I started using Intel. Hey what ever works and is cheaper is what I'll use :D. If you're not a fan of overclocking this is the way to go. Althouth there is some overclocking ability, I don't know that much about it and don't want to mess up any hardware trying.

Fast little processor

Strengths: Runs really cool in comparison to other peoples 3.4Ghz processors.

Weakness: Stock fan is just basic!

Was a great move up for me from a 500Mhz PIII to this 3.2Ghz. Was easy to install myself and booted up immediately. Would recommend this processor over the more expensive 3.4 model.

Intel Pentium 4 640 Processor

Strengths: Words that describe my fist impression: Fast, Quick, Speed, GO-Go, Go-Go, Go

Weakness: Price is a little bit high. Requires other componets to run at full potential, which means that even more money may be required to achive your goal.

If you want speed make sure you try one of these. Along with the right motherboard, memory, etc. you will not be sorry. I would recommend this CPU to anyone who desires a fast stable CPU and has the wallet to afford it.

I ran a test with my old Dell 2.7GHz and my new 3.2GHz computer. I copied some DVD's. I used the same disc and started at the same time. The 3.2GHz was burning two disc to every one that the 2.7GHz could burn. Very Nice. ;-)
I was able to open many more programs and they opened up fast while running stable without freeze ups. I find that this CPU runs really cool with the right fans and case. And as for games, yeah...come on..lets go.

LGA 775

Strengths: Runs great! Super fast.

Weakness: Haven't found yet.

This P4 runs cool and fast with the stock heatsink and fan. Those of you who are complaining about the stock heatsink/fan, make sure that your heatsink is lock in firmly.
The instructions said to push down and than turn counter clockwise or something, don't listen to that. Turn all the pins in locking position first, so all you have to do is push down. Make sure everything is in place, then push down untill you hear a small crecccck sound from each and every pins, and your cpu will run nice and cool.

The best value in Intel's best line of chips

Strengths: Fast, reliable, runs cool with included heat sync.

Weakness: Stock fan can be a bit noisy at full speed, more expensive than comparable AMD chips.

Intel's 600 line of CPUs is their best in a long time, and represents the latest desktop technology. The more expensive 800 "D" series is actually two older chips merged together - and parallel processing won't see gaming performance benefits for years. The 640 is the cheapest of this CPU line to have a whole number multiplier which, depending on your configuration, can result in lower latency because data does not have to wait for other components to catch up (oversimplified, but you get the idea). Around $200 at the time of this writing, this little CPU is a dynamo and will make a fitting centerpiece to any new performance computer. Sure, this chip is "only" 3.2 GHz and the line goes up to 3.8 GHz, but for about a 10% performance increase you pay $1000 more. If you want the very best price/performance ratio, the 640 is your best bet.

Intel puts a great deal of research into selecting a cooling solution for each CPU which is why it's always best to buy their "boxed" CPUs. This box comes with everything you need. Only case modders that just can't stand Intel's utilitarian design should venture into risky bare CPU territory.

Intel Pentium 4 640 Processor

Strengths: sheer speed

Weakness: A little pricey

This is the best Intel processor in my opinion, i've owned so far. It runs super cool (36c-42c), even though I have it clocked to 3.847ghz with a FSB of 960mhz. I have it installed in an Asus board (P5AD2-E-premium) with a 3 drive Rapitor raid "O", along with some less expensive memory installed and some PC5400 (matched pair) due tomorrow. With this machine "buckle up"

Intel Pentium 4 640 Processor

Strengths: Very fast and reliable. Well supported by all major commercial operating systems. The CPU is now a flat ste of contacts flush on the bottom of the package which eliminates the possibility of damage.

Weakness: still stuck at the 800MHz FSB

Intel CPUs and Chipsets are stable, fast and reliable. The LGA 775 form factor has shifted the pins which used to be on the CPU to the motherboard. The CPU fan requires substantial pressure to be properly installed.

what a great processor

Strengths: fast, 2M L2,

Weakness: runs a little hot, but can be forgiven.

I bought this a couple of weeks ago. Thanks to Newegg, it got to me within a few days. This is one fast, I mean, fast processor. From pressing the power on switch on the computer to getting to booting and up and running the windows, it does not take more than 30 seconds. What a difference from my old AMD Athlon 1500. programs open whin less an a blink of eye. I have to mention that it runs a little hot as many of the other posters have mentioned. But I bought a heavy duty Zalman 7700 CU, and it rung cool as a cucumber. Idle about 30c and full load around 42C. I love my new computer. I build this from scratch and I am glad I decided on this fantastic processor. If you are looking for a good CPU this is the one. Newegg is the cheapest I found.

Solid stuff as usual, and with recent Intel price...

Strengths: LGA 775 Platform Base. Native PCI Express Vid support. Hyper Threading. Small. Excellent stock fan, making OEMs not worth it.

Weakness: Poor instructions on the new heatsink/fan installation. Google for better guides.

Basically, this is the chip that is the exception to the AMD price/performance equation. All the perks of an Intel, for the price of AMD, AND more power for the dollar than the Socket478 AGPs.

LGA 775 Platform Base saves money. And is so small it allows for better cooling solutions.

Remember the kids back in the day with dual CPUs? Hyperthreading beats that.

Quality fan and 3 year warranty make it only 5 bucks at the end of the day than an OEM model. Go retail for this one.

P4

Strengths: Very Fast!

Weakness: Stock fan and heat sink.

This cpu is very fast and stable. The only down side with this product is the fan and heat sink. Although they keep the cpu running cool, the fan is extremely loud. Especially under load conditions. With that being said, I do recommend it.

Clock speed, Or performance?

Strengths: The clock speeds are high!

Weakness: Hot, And bad Architecture

This CPU, Is worth the money if you are just trying to stay ahead of the requirements lable. But other than that i would go with AMD!
The p3 was better, When the P4 was released, Intel found out that they would have to go with the clock speed to keep up with AMD.

I have this and a AMD 64 2.2 San Diego core, And that kicks this to the curb! And that is a 2.2...

So as i said, Its Clock speed over performance!!!

Yummy!

Strengths: 64Bit/HT replaced my 2.8 256KB 533bus now I burn at 1/2 the time and 60% CPU use and gee I can surf while I burn and record at the same time. I love HT.

Weakness: Not

I'm a gamer and this CPU is worth every penny buffer and bus speed both are fine for anything on the market today put 1GHz ram to optimize and 256MB video you'll love it too. Oblivion and HL2 run Great!

Intel Pentium 4 640 Processor

Strengths: 64 bit support for windows Vista, fast, Hyperthreading support, price/performance ratio.

Weakness: Like all Prescott chips, runs hot.

I paired this CPU with an MSI 865PE Neo3 board, a budget but solid Mobo. Installation went without a hitch. This was my first build with a socket 775 chip and I much prefer it over the old Pentium socket 478, the CPU feels much better secured to the board. Cooling is via a Zalman Resorator 1 "Plus", idle temps hover around 43-44c and after running Prime95 Torture Test for 6 hours hovered around 60c. Would buy this CPU again.

Simple

Strengths: Simple to install.

Weakness: None

I installed this processor in an ABIT AL8 motherboard. They both work flawlessly. The installation was easy pop the thing in and go! Runs very cool even under load compared to my other 3.4.
