Great overall boardStrengths: lots of accesories, supports up to 8GB of memory ram, excellent Audio; great setup instructions Weakness: Only supports 2 parralel IDE devices. With this board you get all the cables and connectors that you will need to build a system from scratch. The integrated audio is great, you don't really need to buy a separate audio card which can save some money. The only drawback is that you will need to make sure all of your hard drives support SATA otherwise you will only be able to install one DVD ROM since this drive only supports 2 parallel IDE devices. 100% of readers found this review helpful. Intel 955XBK up and runningStrengths: Great features, comes with a ton of accesories, Great install instructions. Weakness: None that are the products fault. This is my 4th consecutive Intel Motherboard. They come with great accessories and always have updated drivers and BIOS available at the Intel website. Although I have built many computers in the past, first timers will really enjoy the installation instructions. It comes with two 2 foot by 3 foot color posters with step by step instructions. 80% of readers found this review helpful. Did you find it helpful or unhelpful? Top

D955XBK Motherboard (Pentium 4/Pentium D, Socket...Strengths: Excelent documentation, easy install,a lot of cables,Excellent options, dual PCI-express x 16 Weakness: None so far Excellent specifications for this motherboard, good for graphics with dual pci express x 16, good systems raid and silicon for storage, better upgrades for processors and memory ram, and good sound 7.1 channels. This motherboard is designed for high performance parts and when used in conjucntion with those parts, it families. The board comes in a very neat package and with plenty of accessories for anything you would want to do with it. 73% of readers found this review helpful. Did you find it helpful or unhelpful? Top

investigate before you buy...Strengths: d955xbk comes with alots of cables, and a good basic quick start guide Weakness: bios is not user friendly and can be hard to access, if you set something wrong in, you will have to recover, not so with other boards like , asus witch are alot simpler to use, also only one ide chan over all this board runs great, you will probably see some codes as you first start up and load the OS, but the problem here is that these code are not in the intel forms included with this board, after an 45min search on itels site, i was unable to find a resolution, if you need tech support from intel be prepaired to fork over some cash. 66% of readers found this review helpful. solid motherboardStrengths: All my hardware worked with it. Weakness: Only one IDE channel. With my old motherboard, out of the 4GB of memory I had it only saw/used 3.2GB, which sucked. This board sees/uses 3.8GB, which makes me happy. It came with a CD-R containing Windows drivers, but I use Linux. I downloaded all the docs and a BIOS update from Intel's website. All my previous hardware from my motherboard that died worked fine with this board. 0% of readers found this review helpful. Did you find it helpful or unhelpful? Top

Great Motherboard, but the seller suckesStrengths: It works Weakness: The product was not what was represented in the sellers description. It was advertised as the box version which comes with all the accessories required to install it but it arrived in a plain white box. It is impossible to review the product without a review of the seller, since the product was misrepresented. I would use the word fraud but don't wish to generate any liability. solid motherboardStrengths: All my hardware worked with it. Weakness: Documentation, or lack thereof. Only one IDE channel. I had 4GB of memory on my previous motherboard that died. That board could only see/use 3.2GB, which sucked. This board allows me to use 3.8GB and that makes me happy. It shipped with a CD-R that contained Windows drivers, but I run Linux so I didn't need it. I downloaded the motherboard manual, new BIOS, and whatever other docs I could get from Intel's site. Even though it is an older board, all my older hardware works fine with it and I am completely happy. Did you find it helpful or unhelpful? Top

Intel's best motherboard for gamers.
Strengths: Genuine Intel motherboards have a long reputation of stability and exemplary driver support. Includes everything you need, especially where cables are concerned. Fan-less for a quieter computer.
Weakness: More expensive than non-Intel boards based on the same chipset. Requires expensive components.
This is Intel's flagship motherboard, based upon its latest 955x chipset. Although Intel says this board is only compatible with the incredibly expensive 3.8 GHz version of its 600 CPU line, that is only marketing fluff and you can rest assured that all of the 600 line CPUs will work perfectly - and quite a bit faster than using the older chipsets Intel recommends. Although I highly recommend Intel's 600 CPU line, this motherboard fully supports all of the latest chips, even the "Extreme Edition" ones that use a 1066 MHz bus.
This motherboard uses an oversized passive heat sink, so it doesn't make the annoying whirring noise that so many other manufactures tiny chipset fans cause. Intel touts this board for workstation use, but it only has one CPU slot and is therefore much better suited for gaming systems. Component wise, it requires a new PCI Express video card or two, which can get expensive. Moreover, it only has one parallel IDE slot so you need to pair it with new Serial ATA hard drives. That being said, if you are building a new gaming system you will want PCI Express and Serial ATA components anyway - the point is that this board is not suited for mainstream (read: non-gaming) computing needs. As a side note, this board really needs 2 GB of 667 MHz (PC 5400) RAM. Hidden in Intel's technical documents it states that you should use four DIMMs of double sided (512 MB) RAM for best performance. If you can find an OEM boxed version of this motherboard that costs less than the retail box, go for it. The retail version comes with lots of SATA cables, but the OEM version still includes two - enough for most people.
All-in-all, this board is a bit more expensive than the other brands' offerings based on the same chipset but you get the exemplary support including, most importantly, always up to date, high quality drivers and a 3 year warranty from Intel.
