Whew, this baby gets hot!!

Strengths: Great performance if application supports it

Weakness: Gets really hot; requires after-market cooling; not all applications support it

I've had this processor for about seven months, and in general, have been quite happy with it. I notice things like CD/DVD ripping is much faster, as is movie making in Adobe Premiere Elements. I initially had some issues where certain applications didn't support the dual-processors, so had to go into the task manager and disable dual-cpu support. This was true with itunes, as it would lock up my computer during ripping. Apple released a new version at some point, so it works fine now.

The biggest knock for this product is the heat generated! I initially had the stock Intel fan, but I was getting fully loaded CPU temps in the high 80's and low 90's. I was worried that the thing would melt! Alarms were going off with my Bios CPU heat monitor!! I ended up buying the Thermaltake Typhoon monster cooling unit to keep this thing at a reasonable temp. Standby temps are not around 50, and fully loaded at 70. Workable.

Recommended.

Strengths: Fast chip, dual core.

Weakness: Hot. 775 socket is touchy.

This is a nice compact chip, placing two cores on one cpu. If you crunch numbers and still want to use you computer, this is the way to go. Beware the socket 775 is a bit touchy and I had to reseat the chip to get the system to function properly. This was never the case on regular 'pinned' chips. Regardless, nice chip, runs a bit hot.. but the huge heat/sink fan they give you should take care of that.

Most reviews I have read say they need a better heatsink and fan, so it probably won't "take care of that" heat issue.

OK proc, too much heat

Strengths: Dual core

Weakness: Heat

Because of heat issues had to watercool it. Very stable, but can't overclock it too much, just 10% tops. Installation was very easy, works very well with Autodesk Architectural Desktop. Didn't try it with 64bit OS yet, because have problems obtaining drivers for couple peripherals.

Good Processor

Strengths: speed and multitasking

Weakness: Heat

Well i custom built a new pc (tower) 3.0gz Dual Core, Intel D945PSN and 2GB 677mhz ddr2 (kingston). I had a couple of problems where i would get a bios beep error. 3 beeps (memory error). I still get it but can't really figure out why. I would shut down the computer and then turn back on later on and a beep error accours. But over all the processor makes it easier to get work done. I can burn movie or cd while surfing the net and writing report or doing paperwork for work.

Pentium D 830 Dual Core - 3.0GHz Processor (3.0GHz,...

Strengths: Good processor, good brand, new system: dual core

Weakness: A lot of heat for the players, No hyperthreading

Large potential to overclock, multi-tasking environment it should be significantly faster. I'm very pleased with the performance of the system, maybe better with 1066 MHZ FSB, I have read a lot of issues concerned with heat generation, but this processor has problems of heat.

There couldn't be much potential for overcloking if the heat is as bad as the reviews I've read. Maybe with a high performance water cooling system, or a phase change cooling system. Kind of contridicting yourself with the "no hyperthreading", then speaking of the potetial for all the multitasking... I was looking in to buying one but not if it runs that hot.

Like a wild beast in a sardine can.

Strengths: Powerful dual-core, compact, multi-tasking, and trusted brand.

Weakness: Extreme heat and price.

This is quite a powerful processor from a well-trusted company. This dual-core 64 bit processor does very well for the price you pay for it, but it does have heat issues. Even with the system at idle my system ran at about 140 degrees Fahrenheit when I just had the stock fan. I recently installed a water cooling system and that did help with the heat issues. If you multi-task a lot, this processor is a good choice. Overall it is a good processor that performs beyond what I expected.

Good Processor

Strengths: Speed and Multitasking

Weakness: Price

Nothing extraordinary to be expected from this processor. Its a decent speed dual core piece. The dual core does make multi-tasking an easy task. But then the price point is still a bit steep if you compare the actuals of the processor. I have read a lot of issues concerned with heat generation, something that usually can get addressed easy through a non-stock heat sink. But take my advice if you are going to use it for everyday work tasks (office programs and throw in a bit of net) and are not heavy into gaming then you are okay with the heat issue too. I do not overclock and that's where the heat generation can be a problem for gamers.

I love this processor

Strengths: Super fast, great for multi-tasking

Weakness: It runs a little hot, so its tough to overclock.

It runs a little hot, so its tough to overclock. You will need to replace the heatsink and fan to get any OC ability. I am using the thermaltake Blue Ortb with it, and got it OC'd nicely. Overall, its a great bang for the buck (under $100).
