AMD Athlon X2 3600 !!

Strengths: Pretty fast, low price, very quiet and does not get hot, easy to install, Socket AM2, AMD cool and quiet

Weakness: Not exactly 2 times the Athlon 64

We originally purchased the AMD Athlon X2 3600+ for use with a multi user environment and it is very stable. Worked first time when we were putting it together. It came with a heat sink that is moderately quiet and was easy to install. The only weakness is that although AMD might say you can do twice as much, that is merely not true. It is actually about 1.5 times because the first core is tied...

AMD AM2 3600+ - best value

Strengths: Very fast, low power consumption, ease of installation, runs quiet, and low temperature...

Weakness: None - unless you really wanted a quad.

Includes a quiet heat sink and fan (in retail box) that does a good job of keeping things cool. Even when gaming, CPU's temp is under 40C. It is a typical AMD high quality CPU. It installed and booted without a problem, and both cores were recognized. An appreciated improvement is with the heat sink/fan -- it clips on without a struggle. A small lever gently does all the work now.

Athlon 64 X2 3600+ Processor

Strengths: Brisbane core, OC to 2.9Mhz, price, Energy Eficient dual core,

Weakness: 512KB L2 Cache, HSF

The 65nm Brisbane is a low power low heat dual core cpu that can handle most computer tasks. The cpu can be overclocked to 2.9 MHz which makes it a great value. I have it installed in a SFF PC with Biostar Board. I replaced HSF with AMD heatpipe version.

Cheap, but impressive performance

Strengths: Cheap, stable, excellent performance, energy-efficient

Weakness: None

I wanted to upgrade my computer to a dual core. For some reason, I have higher opinion of AMD, so when I was shopping, I was looking at AMD options only. It's a personal choice of course--I am sure intel dual core would be fine as well. But to continue, while I wanted a dual core, I didn't want to spend too much money on it. After watching deals forums, I found this AM2 processor was cheap enough...

Best entry level dual core

Strengths: Fast, Runs cool, Dual-core!

Weakness: n/a

I use this cpu in my home theater PC. It works perfectly -- fast enough for any audio/video playback -- including high-def content, runs cool. And best of all, it is inexpensive! I think this is one of the best price/performance CPUs around. If I have to complain one thing, it might be the stock fan, it is not super quiet -- it's just ok -- not loud.

Excellent cheap and fast dual core CPU

Strengths: faster compared with my previous intel pentium 630 precott 3.0G, easy overclocked to 2.5G, low energy comsumption.

Weakness: Actually, it is not a weaknss. I means that it is not as fast as intel quad-core CPU. But X2 3600+ is much cheaper compared with quad-core CPU.

Build a system with AMD X2 3600+ CPU, Biostar Tforce 550 motherboard, Seagate 7200.10 320G hard drive, 2GB kingston DDR2-800 memory, BFG 7900GS graphic card. It runs great!

Excellent value for a dual core cpu

Strengths: Cheap, fast.

Weakness: Incorrect temp output

Cheap, dual core, runs cool, easy to overclock, supports virtualization. You can pay $170 for an x2 6000 or $65 for an x2 3600 and overclock to the speeds of a 6000.

Athlon 64 X2 3600+ CPU

Strengths: Speed, Overclocks easy, Low temps, Value for the money

Weakness: 9.5 memory multiplier runs memory at 760

This is the absolute best value CPU today. It overclocks like crazy and doesn't put out the heat that older AMD X2's do. The Brisbane core is the one to get if you want to push the limits of the chip since it's a 65 nm core and not a 90 like the other X2s. The stock cooler is ok for running a mild overclock but you need something like a Arctic 64 Pro if you're going to shoot for 3Ghz. Some...

Cheap but effective

Strengths: Price, dual-core, low power so it runs cool

Weakness: barely enough horse power to decode next gen HD content

I put this into my HTPC, hoping to keep the cost minimal for the system, while still being able to watch HD content. I am able to watch most content without issues, but some of the more intensive scenes with a lot of motion and a lot h264 decoding caused the processor to spike both cores @ 100% and had some jitters. On the plus side, the processor runs very cool. About 95-110°F at idle in a room...
